2011 Project #1: Closet Makeover

At the beginning of the year I made a list of projects I wanted to complete in 2011. On the top of my list was organize my closet. My goal was to create a "working closet" one that would allow me to be more efficient in the mornings and provide me more options when creating an outfit. I spent all day on a Saturday emptying out the entire contents of my closet, vacuuming up the dust in the corners, sifting through clothes seeing what still fit and what was still in style. And finally I was done. It's not perfect but it's a vast improvement. Take a look.

BEFORE MAKEOVER: It wasn't super messy just extremely unorganized. Couldn't really find anything quickly and forgot what I had at times hidden in the back corners.

DURING MAKEOVER: emptied everything out. Had to use both bedrooms and hallway to put all my stuff while I vacuumed and decided how to put everything back in. And as you can see even had some shoes hanging out in the hall bathroom. That is when I realized I have a lot of stuff!

FINISHED PROJECT: introduced some new items to my closet to help with the organization and flow of the clothes. I removed clothes that didn't fit anymore and moved them to what I call now the "skinny closet" in the guestroom. I bought 3 canvas baskets to put Bathing Suits, Hats and Miscellanious clothes, and I made these cute little labels for the baskets. I also bought a small shoe shelf, which only added a little relief to my growing shoe population.

I purchased different hooks for my scarfs and belts. The belt hook I bought is a great invention and helps immensely when planning what to wear everyday. I still want some more crates but those have proven difficult to find at the stores.

Lastly, and my most favorite addition to my new working closet, is my necklace organizer. I searched the internet for several different ideas on how to store and display my necklaces. I settled on the frame option. I love it. You can make it too, it's so simple. Just buy any frame you want (depending on how many necklaces you own). I went with this collage frame. Than you need scrapbook paper and clear adhesive hooks. Place the scrapbook paper behind the glass and position the hooks where you want them on the glass and ta-da!...you have your very own necklace display organizer thing-a-ma-bob!
