Today I'm just not feelin' it. Can't focus and I don't want to be at work. Which is why I'm blogging. I hear thunder outside and it makes me happy. I love rainy days. Especially rainy days of doing nothing but watching movies. Which is a great setting for a day of funk! Super Comfy in my PJs sounds good right about now. I'm going to go back to this morning and call in sick and instead live out a day of lounging and watching a movie marathon. I don't think I've had a day in a very long time that I had no expectations, no errands, no shindigs to attend, no plans. I long for this lazy day. And when that day comes I'm ready because I have my list for my movie marathon.
1. Sense & Sensibility: this is my go to movie for any mood. I love it. It hits all the right emotions. It's funny, romantic and drama. My favorite part is at the end when Emma Thompson's character starts crying uncontrollably, I'm assuming because she is so happy. If you haven't seen it, watch it. If you have seen it watch it again!
2. When Harry Met Sally: the banter in this movie is so great. One of the main reasons I think this is such a classic. Great lines are all over this movie. One line that rings true to me is:
Sally: "I'm going to be 30!"
Harry: "When?"
Sally: "Someday!"
I also love how detailed Sally's character is. Harry says she is the worst kind: someone who is high maintenance that things their low maintenance. (wait I think that is me!) case in point the way she orders her food at the restaurants, I relate so well (that would be how I would order if I wasn't afraid the server would spit in my food)
3. That Touch of Mink: you guys knew and old movie had to be in here somewhere. This is just the best. It is classy and glamorous. There is even a scene all about shopping and fashion. This is the movie that makes me wish I was born back then. Everything seemed so simple and polite. And Cary Grant's character Philip Shayne...he is all class and dry funny humor. The scene where Doris Day's character gets drunk is hilarious.
Cathy: "Do you like the way I walk?"
Philip: "Poetry in motion."
Cathy: "I learned when I was a baby, been walking for years."
Even if you don't like old movies you just might like this one.
4. Nine Months: this movie made me fall in love with Hugh Grant. I never stop laughing at this movie. A lot of big stars in this one: Julianne Moore, Joan Cusack, Jeff Goldblum, Tom Arnold and Robin Williams is in it too, which I find him totally funny in everything he does.
5. French Kiss: don't know what it is about this movie, maybe it is the fantastic french music, but I can watch this over and over again. It's just fun and light-hearted. There are some funny lines:
Kate: "So, who is this guy?"
Luc: "Bob."
Kate: "Bub?"
Luc: "No, no, Bob. You now, like, uh, Bob Dylan?"
Kate: "Oh Bob."
Luc: "Oui, Bahb."
Guess you have to be there for that one. Watch it and you will see it is funny, I promise.
6. Forget Paris: "You like it you got it, Toyota!" another Billy Crystal movie. Billy is good with the witty banter too, which is my fav. The scene with the bird stuck to Debra Winger's head always gets me laughing out loud. You think it would lose its luster after seeing it a million times, but it doesn't.
7. Friends: if you have never sat down and watched season's 1-10 in order you are missing out on a true joy in life. Friends never gets old to me. Ross is the best on that show and it just got better and better with each season. I put season 6 on here because one of my favorite episodes is in this season. To help you figure out which episode, to all my Friends fans, "PIVOT!" I could go on and on with Friends' quotes, but I'll save you from that today.
8. First Knight: had to include at least one action movie, but this may qualify for romantic still. But hey there are swords so I'm calling it an action movie. This movie has it all: action, romance, forbidden love, humor, betrayal, drama! So sad for King Arthur when he finds them kissing, just breaks your heart a little.
9. Can't Buy Me Love: I loved this movie as a kid and I still love it today. And who knew that Ronald Miller would grow up to be McDreamy! Just a fun 80s movie about a nerdy kid with a dream to be cool. I thought that Cindy Mancini was sooooo cool when I first saw this movie, cool clothes, cool hair. And that suede outfit was awesome!
10. Clue: Just laugh out loud funny!!! I love the end with all the alternate endings. Tim Curry is the best in this. And for the finally I'll leave you with a little video I found of the top 25 moments from Clue. And I agree with the #1 moment - it's my FAVORITE!!!
Yes, I agree with many of those movies. There is something about French Kiss that I can watch over and over again too. I would add to my list, the man who knew too little with Bill Murray.
